Since 1934, Malaco, a Cloetta brand, has been charming candy lovers with novel candies. The Malaco brand name comes from the original company name, Malmö Lakrits Compani when it was Sweden’s first licorice manufacturer! Offering tastes for all ages, from sweet, sour, salty and beyond, Malaco candies are classic crowd pleasers.
The impact Malaco has had on Swedish candy culture cannot be overstated. In fact, Malaco created the initial Swedish fish candy. In the 1950s, Malaco wanted to create an iconic candy unique to Sweden to represent the culture and provide an exciting new treat for the growing Scandinavian candy market. Since fishing was and still is a large part of Swedish culture, Malaco chose the fish to represent Sweden and originated a chewy, fruity candy named “Pastellfiskar” (“Pastel Fish”). This sweet hit gained even more popularity when introduced to the American market as the well known and loved Swedish Fish candy in 1957. Malaco still exports the Swedish Fish brand to the U.S. today!
Sweetish carries a variety of Malaco candies. Try Zoo, one of the most popular candies in Sweden.
